Le principali linee di ricerca del settore Tecnologie e Sistemi di Lavorazione (ING-IND/16) riguardano:

Tecnologie di lavorazione non convenzionali con particolare attenzione ai processi di deformazione plastica a caldo di lamiere in leghe metalliche leggere (leghe di alluminio, magnesio e titanio) e di acciai alto resistenziali e ai processi di lavorazione tramite fascio laser.
Metodi innovativi di caratterizzazione meccanica e tecnologica dei materiali metallici basati sui reali stati tensionali e deformativi presenti nel materiale durante i processi di lavorazione.
Simulazione numerica dei processi produttivi basata sulla modellazione agli elementi finiti dei relativi fenomeni di carattere meccanico, termico e termo-meccanico.
La mitigazione del cambiamento climatico, l'obiettivo di ridurre le emissioni di CO2, normative più stringenti e l'incremento dei costi energetici hanno spinto i ricercatori a studiare l'efficienza energetica e le fonti energetiche rinnovabili. I sistemi di produzione sono grandi consumatori di energia e sono quindi responsabili di enormi emissioni di gas serra; per questi motivi, molti studi si sono recentemente concentrati su questo argomento. Le tematiche di ricerca proposte in tale ambito hanno riguardato la progettazione, politiche di spegnimento/accensione ed integrazione delle fonti di energia rinnovabili in sistemi di produzione.
